Bring Your Own RAM & SSD

Bring Your Own RAM & SSD

PC memory and storage prices have soared. Some DDR5 kits and SSDs are up 100–400% and still rising. The AI boom has big players snapping up hardware, leaving gamers and creators with higher costs and fewer options.

We’re not about that. Instead of passing inflated prices onto you, we’re giving you control. Already have RAM or SSDs? Found a killer deal? Send them to us. We’ll install, stress test, tune, and validate your parts, ensuring your Wired2Fire PC is rock-solid before it ever leaves our doors.

Quick Compatibility Check

RAM

Before you send anything in, make sure your memory checks these boxes:

  • DDR Generation
All current Wired2Fire systems run DDR5 only.

  • Module Type Matters

    • Gaming desktops (Ryzen / Core Ultra): UDIMM

    • Workstations (Threadripper / Xeon): RDIMM

    • Laptops, NUC: SODIMM
  • Capacity & Stick Count
Two matching sticks = best performance. Common sweet spots:

    • 32GB (2×16GB)

    • 64GB (2×32GB)

    • 128GB (2×64GB)
Mixed-capacity kits aren’t supported. Single sticks will work, but dual-channel is where the magic happens. Non-standard sizes (24GB, 48GB, 96GB) usually work, but can take extra tuning.

SSD

Before you send anything in, make sure your SSD checks these boxes:

  • Format
That this is either SATA or NVMe M.2.

  • Type Matters

    • SATA drives are 2.5″ and fit directly to the case. Your check your motherboard and case for max number of drives.

    • NVMe M.2 drives are directly attached to the motherboard. Check your choosen board for the number of available slots.

  • PCIe Generation
Ideally your want the newest generation your Motherboard will support:

    • Gen 3 Slowest

    • Gen 4 Mid

    • Gen 5 Fastest

  • Capacity
We recommend that you generally stick to two NVMe M.2 on most motherboards, as more than this can impact available PCIe lanes for your GPU and Add-In Boards. As such keep this in mind when sending in your drives. 2x2TB is better thant 4x1TB.

FAQs

Are used RAM or SSDs okay?

Absolutely — as long as they’re compatible. We’ll fully test any RAM or SSD you send us.
If you’re unsure about compatibility, get in touch before shipping it in.

We’ll let you know exactly what went wrong and, where possible, help you with a manufacturer warranty claim.
If needed, we also have in-house RAM and SSD options ready to keep your build moving.

We strongly recommend backing up and formatting your drive before sending it to us.

Yes. We’ll dial in the best settings for optimal performance and long-term stability.

Nope. Once your parts arrive, your system continues through production on our normal timeline.

Yes. We’ll test everything, select the best match, and return any unused parts with your PC.
Please let us know ahead of time so we send the correct packaging

  • RAM: Not quite. Every system must have RAM installed so we can fully test, tune, and validate it before shipping.

  • SSD: Yes. You can add an SSD later without affecting your system warranty (the added drive itself won’t be covered).

At this time, BYO is limited to RAM and SSDs only.

No problem.

  • We’ll ship your RAM or SSD back to you free of charge.

  • If cancelling after SSD testing has begun, note that data may already have been wiped — Wired2Fire can’t be held responsible for any data loss.
